NEXT OPEN MEETING *

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 10th, 2011, 6.30pm                                                                                            no.w.here (Third Floor, 316-318 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 OAG)

After a brief intro to PWB we will continue working on actions and interventions in relation to our current specific campaigns:

1.  Labour Conditions in the Cultural and Educational Sector, including internships and free and precarious labour regimes. [Note: Our Carrotworkers Counterguide to Free Labour is now out!! Come along to a meeting or contact us for a copy]

2. Training for Exploitation: Re-writing the Hidden Curriculum: Looking at the role of universities and education more broadly in the reproduction of precarity; writing a shared curriculum with teachers in several university art, design and media departments; finding ways to intervene in ‘employability’ agendas in universities today.

3. How Can we Fight the Marketisaton and Corporatisation of the Arts: How can we change the now complete shift from public subsidy for the arts, to the enforced marketisation of institutions, individual artists and groups? The imperative to raise private income and the imposition of corporate managerial models of KPIs (key performance indicators) etc, is now ubiquitous. Is it possible to fight for the right NOT to work within corporate model?

We will also continue to gather testimonies and map the conditions of precarity in London to which we invite you to contribute too.

We look forward to seeing you at this meeting.

 * Open meetings will take place on the second Thursday of each month.

About

We are a UK-based group of precarious workers in culture and education. We call out in solidarity with all those struggling to make a living in this climate of instability and enforced austerity. We come together not to defend what was, but to demand, create and reclaim:

EQUAL PAY: no more free labour; guaranteed income for all

FREE EDUCATION: all debts and future debts cancelled now

DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS: cut unelected, unaccountable and unmandated leaders

THE COMMONS: shared ownership of space, ideas, and resources

Join us to learn, create and struggle together!

We hold regular open meetings, contact us to get on the mailing list and hear about what we do. The Precarious Workers Brigade is affiliated with the Carrotworkers' Collective http://carrotworkers.wordpress.com/
